Pongee (Tussah) is an organic wild silk gathered in the jungle from cocoons of wild silk moths. The fabric is sturdy, crisp, naturally beige and 44" wide.

The fiber is sturdier than, although not as soft as, cultivated silk. This fabric holds up very well to high wear uses. I have used it for 30 years for work dresses, casual wear, men’s shirts, light weight pants, and durable lingerie.

Care: Hand or machine wash using the gentle cycle with lukewarm water and mild liquid detergent (suitable for handwashing dishes). Rinse well and add vinegar to the last rinse if your water is hard. Air dry in shade or tumble dry on low heat. Do not over dry. For an extra sheen, iron dry from lightly damp, using a medium iron setting.

Always pre-shrink fabric before cutting to sew by washing it first. This fabric shrinks minimally: 3 to 5%.

The weft is tussah wild silk, warp is cultivated Bombyx mori silk.
