Description
Our Eri silks are produced in a special project in India aimed at re-popularizing traditional fiber raising techniques. Castor bean plants are planted around cotton fields as a natural means of deterring pests, and the Eri silkmoth eats the castor plants. The silkmoth’s cocoons are collected after the moth has emerged. Thus, these are also “peace silk” — sometimes referred to as “vegetarian silk” — meaning that the producers allowed the moths to freely exit the cocoons and complete their natural life cycle.
