“Mist” Organza

$32.95

This lightweight, barely-there organza is raised from a heritage strain of silk in Central Asia.

It is made from 100% natural peace silk, meaning that the moths were allowed to emerge freely from the cocoons and complete their natural life cycle.

Like all true organzas, this fabric gets its natural stiffness and “body” from serecin, the stiff gum which holds the silkworm cocoon together. Most silk fabrics have been “degummed”, meaning the serecin gum is removed and only the silk fibers remain.

Description

The raising of silk for this unique fabric is all done on small family farms whose Mulberry trees are up to 400 years old. There is only one hand-tended raising per year, in the spring, making this fabric very special.

The very finest threads used in this fabric are all hand reeled and the fabric is hand woven on traditional foot pedal looms.

This is the only place in the world still doing silk reeling entirely by hand, enabling this and our other fabrics made in this region to be the only reeled peace silks.
